3. Maspalomas Golf

Address: Avenida Touroperador Neckerman, Canary Islands

On the southeast side of Gran Canaria, you can find Maspalomas Golf Courses. Their golf courses located within Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve are unmatched by anything on the Canary Islands.

Mackenzie Ross, one of the most famous golf course architects, has designed this 18-hole, par 73 course. The best thing that everybody appreciates about these courses is their flat, expansive fairways and close proximity to the sea.

On top of all that, a gentle breeze coming from the Atlantic Ocean makes a game on this course a heavenly experience.

Other than the official course, you can also find a practice course, putting and pitching greens, a driving range, and a well-equipped golf shop with everything you will need.

Other than the main amenities, there is also a restaurant that is famous on this side of the island as one of the best culinary experiences and destinations on its own.

4. Salobre Golf & Resort - The Old Course

Address: Avda. Alcalde Diaz Saavedra Navarro, Spain

Last but definitely not least is Salobre Golf & Resort. This resort and wellness center is a unique place on Gran Canaria Island because it is the first golf club with two different courses with 36 holes in total. We will talk later about the Salobre New Course, but right now, let's focus on the old course.

The old course, which was opened in 1999, is the most popular range on the island, and its reputation and pedigree are certainly justified.

One of the main characteristics of this course is the many small greens that are spread out throughout the volcanic grounds of the course, making gameplay a very intense experience for the precise game that needs to be played.

In the summer of 2022, the Old Course went through complete renovation through the guiding hand of David William's master plan implementation (an experienced golf course architect and authority in Europe).

What is so special about this renovation that I had to mention it on this list, you might ask?

David William's interesting master plan was implemented to enhance the quality and introduce the golf course's sustainability. This was done by removing artificial turf and adapting and optimizing to the natural landscape.

So, all in all, all these changes from David William have set new standards in the world of golf that have started a wave of ecological revolution in golf courses around the world, changing the game for the better.

5. Salobre Golf & Resort - Old (10-18) & New Course

Address: Avda. Alcalde Diaz Saavedra Navarro, Spain

Now let's talk about a new course that was built in 2008 and went through renovations too in 2018 with the addition of new tees. The renovation was done with the guiding hand of golf course architect Ron Kirby, who enabled the course to evolve into what it is today.

In the last few years, PGY of America has developed a new concept that has been introduced called "Tee It Forward". This concept of play helps golfers play the course at a length that is aligned with their average driving distance.

All this was implemented to speed up the game and, therefore, the game experience.

The 9 holes with PAR 36 of the New course can be combined with the OLD Course, offering three different golf circuits that you can reserve and get different games every time.

Overall The New Course gives players an interesting game experience because of its demanding technical features that are happening in a natural, less tamed ecological environment.

However, the difficulty is managed through many short holes that demand different strategies from what is expected in a classic golf course environment.

6. Salobre Golf & Resort - New & Old Course (1-9)

Address: Avda. Alcalde Diaz Saavedra Navarro, Spain

So I explained both courses that you can play on in Salobre Golf and Resort. Now is the time to talk about Salobre Golf Academy.

This is the best golf course in Gran Canaria for novice players to get their golf knowledge by working with seasoned players who selflessly offer their advice and experience.

Golf enthusiasts practice their swings on the tiered greens and, at the same time, enjoy the view of the mountainside.

Considering all these amenities and interesting ways the game is played here, you can expect to improve your game by the end of your stay and learn something new regardless of your experience level or physical condition.

To me, this place seems like a perfect home for golf players to meet new, like-minded people and experience something new on their holiday. Many players come back to this course and to Gran Canaria every year, and I'm sure that you will, too!
